About Us

The range of care services which HCCC provides or facilitates (see Our Services) has evolved over many years of responding to the needs of our community. Many needs arising, for example, from inadequate nutrition, illness, ageing and inability to continue living independently, would have gone unnoticed were it not for concerned friends and neighbours bringing these needs to our attention.

We continue to rely heavily on our members and fellow residents for information on individual and community needs in order to respond appropriately and also to refine and extend the services we offer.

HCCC is governed by a management committee of unpaid office-bearers elected annually at the AGM by HCCC members, to whom the office-bearers are responsible. Our constitution requires that there be at least seven such office-bearers, each of whom takes responsibility for one or more portfolios related to the running of the organisation and providing the community with necessary services.

In addition, we have two salaried employees, a general manager who reports to the management committee, together with her assistant.

Funds needed to run HCCC and enable its provision of services to the community are obtained from various sources. Currently, the main source is a grant from the Western Cape Department of Community Development. Individual donations from concerned members of our community are another significant source, as are donations received from some local businesses and church organisations.

Membership fees, which are deliberately kept low to promote an inclusive membership, provide a relatively small but nevertheless important proportion of our income.

HCCC needs all the assistance it can get from members of our community. Firstly, we are a volunteer-driven organisation, requiring constant renewal of the band of volunteers who assist with provision of services. Should any local residents wish to volunteer their services, they are encouraged to look at the range of services we offer, decide where they would like to slot in, and then approach us either through our Manager or Secretary (see Contact Us).

Secondly, as previously alluded to, local residents can provide valuable help by identifying any friends, neighbours or fellow residents who are in need of care and then feeding relevant information through to us.

Thirdly, you can help strengthen and demonstrate solidarity with HCCC by becoming a member (membership application forms are obtainable from the Manager or Secretary).

Finally, you can help by making a once-off or regular cash deposit into our bank account, using the following details:
