Our Services

Welcome to the list of services HCCC provides to the community.
Please do not hesitate to enquire about any of these you or someone you know may need.

If you feel called to help establish other services not mentioned on the page yet, do not hesitate

Our HCC Centre

Our HCC Centre in Betty’s Bay is available for use for private functions by our HCCC members. We are situated at Jacks on Clarence Drive in Betty’s Bay. We can comfortably accommodate 60 people.
We enjoy uninterrupted views of the mountain behind us and the sea in front of us!
Any HCCC member who would like to use the Centre for a private function can contact Colin Cook at myrna.colin@gmail.com for details.

Nutritional Services

Cooked Meals

On average, about 45 nutritious meals are prepared daily on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays by our manager, her assistant, and two to three volunteer helpers. This equates to more than 6 000 meals per year. Meals are distributed mostly as “take-aways” from our kitchen to beneficiaries in the community. On Wednesdays, there is the option to rather enjoy meals as “sit-downs” served in the HCC Centre in Betty’s Bay. Wednesday lunch at HCCC has now become an enjoyable social occasion for all who choose to participate.

The cost of the HCCC meals is subsidised on a sliding scale, based on income. Some people pay the full cost of ingredients and overheads; others pay less; the largest proportion, however, pay as little as a quarter of the full cost, which is an indication of the value of this service to financially struggling households in our community. Because of the large degree of subsidisation involved, all beneficiaries of the meals service are required also to be members of HCCC.

Food Parcels

About 50 food parcels are distributed every month to families in Mooiuitsig, Betty’s Bay, and Pringle Bay. Persons with low or no private income who qualify to receive a government old age pension or disability grant are eligible to receive a food parcel. The food parcels comprise a balanced assortment of non perishable food items, and are an invaluable supplement to each family’s monthly nutritional needs.

Social Activities

Pilates Classes

Pilates classes are held on two mornings each week in the Crassula Community Hall in Betty’s Bay.

Bridge Club

The bridge club meets on one afternoon every week at the HCC Centre in Betty’s Bay, alternating between social bridge and duplicate bridge.

Friendship Circle

Our friendship circle meets once each month, often at the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens in Betty’s Bay.

Home Assisted Independent Living (HAIL) Initiative

Our HAIL initiative focuses on three activities –
The training and support of people in the community who are caring for friends or family members in their homes. We have run training courses in each of 2022, 2023 and 2025. We have set up carers’ support groups for people who have attended our courses, for ongoing mutual support.
The loan of medical equipment needed for the care of elderly or infirm people in their homes.
Assistance with the development of care plans for those people needing care. Whilst HCCC would like to be able to provide professional carers for people needing these services, we cannot afford to do so. We keep an updated resource list that includes the details of professional carers that are available. This list can be requested from our manager.
